Paradise Found: A Review of La Casa Del Mundo in Guatemala
If you’re planning a trip to the stunning Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, let me introduce you to a hidden gem – La Casa Del Mundo. Although, this beautiful place won’t stay hidden for long, as it’s blowing up on social media.
This charming lakeside hotel is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that you’ll remember.
La Casa Del Mundo has been dubbed “Guatemala’s most magical hotel” for a reason.
It’s a stunning oasis nestled in the cliffs surrounding Lake Atitlan.
It’s secluded from the surrounding towns so it’s perfect for a romantic getaway as well as a perfect place to relax for a solo trip.
It has to be one of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed. I mean it’s giving Lake Como vibes.
Plus, La Casa Del Mundo is only accessible by boat, which adds a touch of exclusivity to the whole experience.
It truly is a picture perfect place.

Things to do at Casa Del Mundo
While you’ll be tempted to spend all your time basking in the beauty of La Casa Del Mundo, Lake Atitlan and its surrounding towns have so much more to offer. Here are some must-do activities to make your stay even more memorable:
1. Visit Nearby Towns, below are some I recommend:
- San Pedro La Laguna: San Pedro is the backpackers hub of Lake Atitlan, so this is your spot for nightlife and meeting other travelers.
- San Marcos La Laguna: The spiritual heart of Lake Atitlan, this town is perfect for relaxation, yoga, and holistic healing. Take a yoga class or simply enjoy the tranquil vibe.
- Panajachel: Panajachel is the largest city around the lake. I found it my least favorite out of all the areas around the lake due to how busy it is, however, every traveler is different and you may love it here! You can shop for local textiles, handicrafts, and souvenirs at the colorful markets along Santander Street.
- San Juan La Laguna: Discover the rich indigenous culture and art scene. Visit the Women’s Weaving Cooperative and learn about traditional textile production, and don’t forget to take a coffee tour at a local farm. This place is so colorful, it’s a must see in my opinion.
2. Hike to Indian Nose:
- I wasn’t able to do this hike while there, but I’ve heard amazing things. The summit is a panoramic view of Lake Atitlan and its stunning volcanoes. It’s the perfect spot for a sunrise hike based upon what friends have told me!
3. Explore the Waters:
- Lake Atitlan offers fantastic opportunities for water activities. Rent a kayak, paddleboard, or even take a traditional Mayan canoe ride. The crystal-clear waters and serene surroundings will leave you in awe.
4. Cultural Immersion:
- Attend a local weaving workshop to learn about the traditional Mayan textile craft. You can also visit local art galleries to appreciate the region’s artistic talents and immerse yourself in the indigenous culture.
5. Enjoy Lake Activities:
- From swimming to cliff jumping, Lake Atitlan provides numerous water-based activities. Spend a day swimming in the pristine waters, try cliff jumping if you’re an adrenaline junkie, or simply relax on the shores and soak in the sun.
6. Sunset Watching:
- Lake Atitlan boasts some of the most stunning sunsets. Find a quiet spot by the lakeside, sip on a cocktail, and soak in a stunning sunset.
7. Get a massage
- You can book a massage through the reception desk at La Casa Del Mundo. And the massage room is obviously stunning.
8. Enjoy the sauna
- There’s a sauna to enjoy on site. Take a dive in the water and enjoy a relaxing sauna after!

If you are coming from Guatemala City or Antigua, you will need to take a shuttle, bus, or a taxi to Panajachel. From that point, you will hop on a water taxi to Casa Del Mundo.
