Skydiving over the Swiss Alps in Interlaken, Switzerland
One of my bucket list items since I was a kid was to skydive. It was always on my mom’s bucket list too. My mom passed away in 2017 and since then I told myself that I needed to skydive for the both of us. And now I think that it is an adventure bucket list that everyone should add to their list when traveling to Switzerland.
So in April 2019, I planned a trip to Switzerland and I figured, what could be more epic than skydiving over the Swiss Alps, so I immediately went to Google and found the company Skydive Interlaken. After about 2 minutes on their webpage, I immediately booked a jump and convinced 3 friends to do it too. We chose the Helicopter Skydive over Interlaken from 14,000 ft which gave us views of the lakes and mountain peaks.
So our day started with taking a train from Zurich to Skydive Interlaken (in Interlaken, Switzerland). When we got there we through our safety instructions and getting suited up with our gear. Then we went 2 at a time with our skydiving partner to the helicopter for our tandem dive.
Before we got to the drop point, we took a 10-minute helicopter ride over Swiss Alps — which was a bucket list experience in its own. The mountains in Switzerland are BEAUTIFUL and there’s nothing like seeing them from the sky.
Something very cool about Skydive Interlaken is that instead of an airplane, it’s a helicopter. This means when you start your jump, you step out of the helicopter and stand on the bar before you go. So as you can see by my crazy face in the picture below, this was one of the coolest parts of the whole experience.
Then, you lean forward and just fall — OVER THE SWISS ALPS. I mean, come on, it really doesn’t get much better.
The free fall was about 45 seconds-1 minute. There was no feeling like it.
After that, the parachute comes out and you coast over the mountains and the lakes of Interlaken. We did some 360s in the air with the parachute. My instructor even let me try to steer the parachute.
However, it was just a reminder of the fact that I needed to lift some weights because I could not pull down the handle to spin us so he had to help me. (Face palm)
Then we landed down in the drop zone. With the landing, we had to pull out legs up so that we would slide down on our booties. I got a reminder that I needed to lift weights because I struggled with that too haha, but we landed with no problem.
After that, we headed back and they put all the GoPro footage in their computers and edited a video with music within minutes. We all got pictures and out videos edited with music on a USB thumb drive by the time we left — for a fee of course, but worth every penny. In total, it cost me $694 USD to skydive in Switzerland including the video and pictures as well.
I can hands down say that this was some of the best money that I’ve ever spent and greatest experiences of my life. It is an absolute must-do, if you are in Switzerland. And if you’re not in Switzerland, then you need to book a trip to Interlaken just for this — we were able to do a day trip from Zurich to Interlaken for this experience.
